BE THE MEDIA:
A local approach to establishing an alternative voice
| Runtime: 22mins | © Reel Rising Productions 2009 |

(Filmmakers: Nick Middleton and Chad Schroter-Gillespie)
Filmmakers Middleton and Gillespie explore the revolutionary role of alternative media and collaborative citizen journalism and present a refreshing and inspiring solution to an alarming pattern of deregulation and privatization in Canada’s media industry; a trend that has resulted in some of the highest levels of media concentration in the Western world.
Featuring interviews with a diverse cast of inspired citizens, including an innovative publisher; an internationally acclaimed environmental journalist and blogger; an independent filmmaker and citizen journalist; a politically charged musician and spoken word activist; the founder of TAR – a pirate radio station; and a local media critic and established academic, Be the Media offers up a unique and proactive approach to democratizing the media.
